New Book: A Semiotics of Muslimness

I am thrilled to announce my new book emerging from my work in the Sino-Muslim Heritage Literacy project (funded by the Leverhulme Trust, see here). This book, a Cambridge Element, brings together some important strands in the data collection from the project and I hope that it will be a useful contribution to the field. While essentially a study of ‘heritage literacy’, at its core, this endeavour hinges on the idea that we sense, read, and interpret signs, and assign importance to them, through our various literacy practices. This reflects a commitment to everyday heritage literacy. Or, in Chinese terms, practices at the level of mínjiān [民间] – people to people practices.

The book is available via the Cambridge University Press (CUP) website here, and the ResearchGate link is here.
